Sony Xperia Z Ultra Goes Official with 6.4-Inch Screen


Today, Japanese mobile phone maker Sony Mobile made the long rumored Xperia Z Ultra smartphone official with a 6.4-inch touchscreen display capable of delivering a full HD resolution. 

The new device will arrive on shelves with a 2.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor packed inside, capable of offering great performance capabilities, as well as with support for 4G LTE connectivity and pentaband HSPA radios.

Sony’s new Xperia Z Ultra comes with the same OmniBalance design language as other smartphones in the company’s 2013 lineup, despite is oversized body. 

Furthermore, the handset packs a slim 6.5mm body, 16GB of internal memory, microSD memory card slot, a 3000mAh battery, and Goggle’s Android 4.2 Jelly Bean OS loaded on top, in addition to IP55 and IP58 ratings for dust and water resistance.

“The Xperia Z Ultra is uniquely positioned to offer the ultimate big screen phone entertainment experience for watching movies, playing games, reading books and browsing the web,” Sony announced. 

“Sony’s WALKMAN, Album and Movies media applications enable discovery of online and offline content through a single access point with new ways to enjoy and share that content.”

The new mobile phone sports Sony’s ClearAudio+ mode and Xloud loudness enhancement, HD voice capabilities powered by the Snapdragon 800 processor, and the STAMINA Mode, which significantly boosts its battery life. 

Xperia Z Ultra also packs an 8-megapixel camera with “Exmor RS for mobile” sensor and HDR for videos and photos, and can shoot full HD videos even underwater.

The handset was designed to prove a great business device as well, courtesy of its super responsive screen and of the handwriting recognition capabilities it was packed with, compatible with any pencil and selected stylus or pen.

“You can even write notes or sketches during calls so you’ll always be ready capture your ideas as they happen. The easy-toggle keyboard makes it ideal for one-handed input and multi-tasking, with small apps to help you improve productivity so you don’t lose time browsing between windows,” Sony explains.

Sony also confirmed that the new device will arrive on shelves starting with Q3 in white, black, and purple color flavors. Specific info on availability and pricing will be provided at a later date, on a market-by-market basis.
