Dual SIM Acer Liquid S1 to be launched in the UK on August 5. More Acer phablets could arrive soon

Acer’s first phablet – the Liquid S1 – was officially announced in early June. While it’s not available anywhere in the word yet, it will be soon.

In the UK, Expansys expects to start selling the Liquid S1 on August 5. The retailer only lists the dual SIM version of the device, naturally called Acer Liquid S1 Duo. It’s asking £299.99 (€347, or $460) for it.

August is also the month when the Liquid S1 will be released in Acer’s home country, Taiwan. It will cost 12,900 TWD (about $430) there.

Running Android 4.2 Jelly Bean (surely upgradeable to version 4.3), the Liquid S1 features a 5.7 inch HD (1280 x 720) display, Acers own Float UI, HSPA+, dual band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, DTS sound enhancements, 8MP rear camera with LED flash, quad-core 1.5GHz MTK 6589 processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal memory, MicroSD card support, and a 2,400 mAh battery.

Focus Taiwan reports that Acer “sees opportunities for phones larger than 6 inches.” While the company didn’t provide exact details on this, Peter Shieh (vice president of the corporate account business division in Taiwan) mentioned that “Acer will certainly make phones with larger screens, but we are still assessing the possibility of bringing such models to Taiwan.” Of course, calling a ~6-inch device just “a phone” is still a bit weird, but maybe we should get used to it.
