Qualcomm Snapdragon APQ8084 Leaked, Adreno 420 Inside

Qualcomm's top-dog, the Snapdragon 800 chipset, may already be the fastest mobile SoC in the market, but that is hardly ever enough for the world leader.

A new listing made on the popular benchmarking app AnTuTu's website introduces us to a new dragon, a more powerful one. Listed as the Snapdragon APQ8084, the chip's max speed is 200 MHz more than the Snapdragon 800, i.e. at 2.5 GHz.

This quad-core part is allegedly based on the 32-bit ARM CPU architecture, so we'll have to wait a little longer for 64-bit computing. Also, the Adreno 420 GPU is said to offer at least 10% greater pixel fill rate over the Adreno 330, and also include support for DirectX 11 and WebGL 2.0. Memory bandwidth gets a boost with added support for 64-bit DDR3 memory.

Expect the first APQ8084 powered devices to make their way into the market sometime in 1H 2014.
